Student Solar Ambassador Workshop at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School organised by High Commission of India, Brunei Darussalam in partnership with KEMUDA Institute

The High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam in partnership with KEMUDA Institute had launched the Student Solar Ambassador Workshop, Solar Urja Through Localization for Sustainability (SOULS), a flagship programme of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB), on 02 October 2019 at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Programme envisaged an assembly of 500 solar lamp kits by 500 students from 10 schools in Brunei through workshops conducted by trained instructors. The 10 schools identified were Sultan Hassan Secondary School, Rimba Secondary School, Sayyiddina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School, Awang Semaun Secondary School, Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Secondary School, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School, St. Geroge’s School, St Andrew’s School, International School Brunei and KEMUDA Institute. KEMUDA Institute has been organising workshops for the assembly of the solar lamp kits by students at each school since the launch.

The Workshop concluded on 16 November 2019 with the assembly of solar lamp kits by 29 students at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School.

The event was attended by HE Ajaneesh Kumar, High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam and HE Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Razak bin Haji Muhammad, Executive Chairman, KEMUDA Institute. The High Commissioner, in his message on the occasion, mentioned that the Programme was a small but important effort in raising awareness about the use of renewable forms of energy including solar energy, especially considering the limited availability of non-renewable energy, global warming and climate change. He expressed the hope that the Workshop conducted in the 10 schools across Brunei will encourage and inspire some of the students to design bigger and better models of solar appliances.
