Organisation of Indian Food Festival in Brunei Darussalam

The High Commission of India organised a Food Festival themed on the Lucknowi/Awadhi cuisine in collaboration with Indian Tourism Development Corporation(ITDC), New Delhi and India Tourism Office, Singapore at the Rizqun International Hotel in Brunei on 14-16 February 2020. Two Chefs from ITDC, Mr. Kirti Rastogi and Mr. Tara Dutt Bhatt visited Brunei specifically to prepare the dishes for the Food Festival.





High Commissioner Shri Ajaneesh Kumar launched the Food Festival on 14 February 2020 at which Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Kamalrudzaman bin Pengiran Haji Mohd. Ishak,Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism was the Guest of Honour.In his address, High Commissioner highlighted the salient features of Lucknowi/Awadhi cuisine , its origins and its distinct method of cooking. He introduced Chef Rastogi to the gathering, who then explained in detail the various dishes he had put together for the inaugural event.


The event was followed by a dinner which was attended by around 170 specially invited guests comprising Hon’ble members of the Legislative Council, senior Government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Chambers of Commerce and prominent members of the local and Indian communities. The Food Festival was opened to the public on 15-16 February 2020 for lunches and dinners. These too were well received as around 200 members of the public attended and partook of the food during these two days.






The Food Festival was part of the Mission’s efforts to promote the State of Uttar Pradesh in Brunei through the Lucknowi/Awadhi cuisine. The three day event received wide coverage in the local media with articles on the cuisine, photographs and recipes of some of the dishes and interactions with the Chefs.
